Do I have to renew my membership every year?
If you would like to retain your member status, you must pay membership fees each year. However paying membership fees once does not obligate you to pay them again in future years if you choose to forgo your member status.
I am a student. Do I still have to pay membership fees to attend and/or present at your conference?
Yes. There are reduced membership fees for students that cost $70. Students attending our conference are also eligible to apply for one of five $200 conference bursaries chosen randomly by lottery to help cover related costs.
Why are there different options to pay for membership fees?
Attendance at conferences is an invaluable way for scholars to get exposure, network, and receive feedback about their work. However some people are more likely to face financial (and other) barriers to participating in academic conferences. Their lower membership rates reflect this context with the aim of helping facilitate their attendance at our conference. Other members, assumed to have more steady incomes and/or employment, pay higher membership fees to help cover the cost of the conference and the subsidized fees of others.
What are membership fees used for?
Membership fees are used to pay for our annual conference. As of 2019, holding our conference costs about $20,000. Roughly half of this overall cost is covered by membership fees. The other half is covered by sponsorships.
Can I pay membership fees AND make a separate donation to CDSA-ACÉH?
Yes! Donations are gratefully accepted and can be made via Paypal or by cheque and sent to the address below. Donations are used to help cover a wide range of costs, including those related to conference accessibility, conference bursaries, adaptive equipment, and the Student Paper Competition award, among others. Please see the Sponsors page for more information.
