Dear [Name],

I am writing on behalf of the Canadian Disability Studies Association-Association canadienne d’études sur le handicap (CDSA-ACÉH) to see if you may be interested in sponsoring our organization’s annual national conference. We hope to host a conference that is as accessible as possible, and that facilitates opportunities for students in particular to participate in the burgeoning, interdisciplinary field of Disability Studies.

This year will be CDSA-ACÉH’s 18th annual conference, held May 31st – June 2nd at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. This year’s Congress theme, “Northern Relations”, encourages delegates to explore the connections between peoples, communities, cultures, and ways of knowing, while also listening to those voices that speak directly to some of the most pressing matters of relation (to the land, to each other) in the North: climate change, governance, social justice, reconciliation, reciprocity, education, and much more.

CDSA-ACÉH represents over 100 official members and nearly 600 persons on social media whose cutting-edge scholarship makes both theoretical and practical contributions to interdisciplinary knowledge and research. Our conference presenters typically come from a wide range of disciplines beyond Disability Studies, including Women’s and Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Community Health, Education, and Law, among others.

We are aiming to raise $8000 through sponsorships to fund this year’s meeting and conference. These funds will help cover an estimated:

  • $7000 in accessibility costs, including American Sign Language interpretation and speech to text transcription (CART)
  • $1,000 for conference bursaries to support students and un/under-employed persons attending the conference

Sponsorship levels include:

  • Gold – $750
  • Silver – $500
  • Bronze – $300
  • Individual donations

Your sponsorship will be publicly acknowledged at the conference’s opening address and Annual General Meeting, and your personal or organization’s name and logo will be featured on our conference program, website, and social media. You may also request that your sponsorship be directed towards a conference feature of your choice, such as keynote speakers, nutrition, accessibility, a particular panel, or conference bursaries for students and community members etc.

More information about sponsorships can be found on the CDSA-ACÉH website. Please note that this sponsorship request forms a part of the CDSA-ACÉH’s broader fundraising strategy, which includes advocating to improve overall Congress accessibility standards, and to cost-share accommodation supports with the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences and Western University.

If you are interested in sponsoring us, please confirm your sponsorship using the Google form found here as soon as possible. While we gratefully accept sponsorships year-round, we are better able to plan our conference and anticipate our budget if sponsorships are received by February 15, 2021. You may contact me, or CDSA-ACÉH President Megan Strickfaden at cdsa.aceh@gmail.com, to discuss a package that suits your budgetary and branding needs. Sponsorships may be addressed by cheque with the following information:
