CDSA-ACÉH withdraws from Congress 2021

Dear members of CDSA-ACÉH,

Following our Emergency General Meeting on March 29, 2021, the Canadian Disability Studies Association-Association canadienne d’études sur le handicap (CDSA-ACÉH) membership has voted to withdraw from Congress 2021 in solidarity with the Black Canadian Studies Association (BCSA). This action represents a step towards greater accountability to recognize and address anti-Black racism within our organization and the institutions we are affiliated with. This action is one step in an ongoing effort to decolonize our actions, our activism and our scholarship. Over the next two months, the executive board will focus our efforts on developing an action plan to continue the work of dismantling oppressive structures within and surrounding our organization.

We hope that in consciously taking these steps, we can continue to work together and with others to create a liberative, vibrant and sustainable community.

Sincerely,

The CDSA-ACÉH Executive Board
