Hello CDSA-ACÉH Membership,

On February 9th, the Black Canadian Studies Association’s (BCSA) announced their withdrawal From Congress 2021. This decision came after requests to address the institutional racism that exists within the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences were denied, and the “continuing refusal of Congress to be accountable to Black scholars in Canada.”

After meeting to discuss our organization’s response, the CDSA-ACÉH Executive Board determined a need to consult with our entire membership on this matter.

The CDSA-ACÉH is calling an Emergency General Meeting on March 29, 2021 4PST/5MST/7EST to discuss and vote on CDSA-ACÉH’s participation in Congress 2021.

This meeting will give us the opportunity to come together as a community and make an informed decision on how to move forward. At the meeting there will be a brief presentation detailing the issues, followed by a discussion and a vote* on whether the CDSA-ACÉH wishes to withdraw from Congress 2021 in solidarity with the BCSA and fellow associations. Prior to the meeting, we will be distributing a resource package that includes further background information.

Through this process, we hope to maintain a sustainable and vibrant community, while strengthening our relationships with each other.

To attend, you must register in advance for this meeting.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

*Note: in accordance with our bylaws, only current members will be eligible to vote.
